Free DST File Converter

Turn any image into a Tajima-compatible DST stitch file — no software install, no watermarks.

Updated June 2026

DST is the most widely supported embroidery file format — used by Tajima machines and most industrial multi-needle systems. click-stitch converts PNG, JPG, and SVG images into DST files for free, entirely in your browser.

What is a DST file?

DST (Tajima Stitch Data) stores your design as a sequence of stitch coordinates and jump commands. Unlike PES, DST doesn't store thread color names or design metadata — just the stitch path itself — which is why it works as a near-universal format across embroidery machine brands.

How to convert an image to DST for free

  1. Upload a PNG, JPG, or SVG image.
  2. Remove the background if your source has one you don't want stitched.
  3. Click to assign thread colors to each area (up to 4 on the free plan).
  4. Set your finished width and height.
  5. Export as DST.

Tips for a clean DST conversion

  • Since DST doesn't store color names, jot down the thread colors you picked before you close the tab.
  • Solid, well-separated shapes convert far more cleanly than gradients or fine detail.
  • If the stitch preview looks fragmented, raise the minimum fill-shape size or simplify the source image's colors.
Not sure if you need DST? See our PES vs DST vs JEF comparison to confirm which format your machine actually reads.

Other formats from the same upload

The same image can also be exported as PES, JEF, EXP, VP3, or XXX without re-uploading — useful if you're digitizing for more than one machine. See the full converter guide for every format pairing.

Free vs Premium

Free DST conversions include 3 exports per day, up to 4 colors, and up to 3-inch output. Premium adds unlimited colors, sizing up to 12 inches, and the guided Wizard and Full Editor for finer stitch control.
