PNG, JPG & SVG to Embroidery File Converter

Every common image-to-stitch-format pairing in one guide — PNG to PES, JPG to PES, PNG to DST, JPG to DST, PNG to JEF, and more.

Updated June 2026

If you searched for “PNG to PES,” “JPG to DST,” or any other image-to-embroidery-format pairing, you’re in the right place. click-stitch converts PNG, JPG, and SVG images into PES, DST, JEF, EXP, VP3, and XXX embroidery files — free, in your browser, with no software install. This guide covers each format pairing so you can jump straight to the one you need.

PNG to PES

PES is the native format for Brother and Baby Lock embroidery machines. To convert a PNG to PES:

  1. Upload your PNG (transparent backgrounds work best for logos and icons).
  2. Remove the background if needed, or keep it if your PNG is already clean.
  3. Pick colors and set your output size.
  4. Export as PES.

PNGs with transparency and solid, well-separated color blocks digitize the most cleanly — see our full PES conversion walkthrough for tips on prepping source art.

JPG to PES

JPGs don’t support transparency, so photos and scanned logos usually need background removal before digitizing. Upload your JPG, use the background removal step to isolate your design, then follow the same color and sizing steps as above to export a PES file.

PNG to DST

DST is the universal format for Tajima and most industrial multi-needle machines. The conversion process is identical to PNG to PES — upload, remove background if needed, choose colors and size — just select DST as your export format instead. Read our free DST converter guide for format-specific details.

JPG to DST

Same workflow as JPG to PES: remove the background from your photo or scan, set colors and size, then export as DST instead of PES. DST files don’t store thread color names the way PES does, so make a note of your chosen colors for re-threading later.

PNG to JEF

JEF is used by Janome and Elna machines. Upload your PNG, adjust colors and size, and export as JEF. If you’re not sure which format your machine needs, see our PES vs DST vs JEF comparison.

SVG to embroidery files

SVGs are vector files, which means their shapes are already clean paths rather than pixels — that often makes them the fastest source art to digitize well. Upload an SVG directly and click-stitch will convert its shapes into stitch paths, skipping most of the pixel cleanup a photo or scan needs.

EXP, VP3, and XXX

click-stitch also exports EXP (Melco/Bernina), VP3 (Husqvarna Viking/Pfaff), and XXX (Singer) from the same PNG, JPG, or SVG upload — no separate conversion needed. Pick whichever format matches your machine at export time.

Not sure which format you need? Check your embroidery machine's manual or brand — Brother/Baby Lock use PES, Tajima and most industrial machines use DST, and Janome/Elna use JEF.

Free vs Premium conversions

Every format above is available on the free plan: up to 4 colors and 3-inch output, 3 conversions per day. Premium unlocks unlimited colors, sizing up to 12 inches, and the guided Wizard and Full Editor for finer stitch control.
